Fit and Sizing Advice

When purchasing your suit, it is important to be as honest as you can with yourself about your size.  Starting with the right size is always more encouraging than starting with one that is one or two sizes too small and becoming frustrated.  So if you are a size 12, say it, be proud, and start from there!

When fitting someone in the store we always start at one size above your pant (or dress) size (remember S M L is NOT a size when it comes to a one piece suit) and work from there.  So if you are a size 10 try a 12 – size is just a number, so don’t worry about it!

Your suit should be snug, never loose.  Keep in mind that suits DO NOT shrink they “grow” and stretch in the water, which can result in ‘Saggy Bottom’ syndrome if you aren’t careful.  Bottoms should be snug at the cheeks and around the leg elastic, no ripples or gathers that can hold water and cause the fabric to pull away from the body.  Tops should give you sufficient bust coverage and the support you want or need; if you are bigger busted, start with your cup size in a top for your best fit.  Also, keep in mind that many straps are cut generously and may feel too long or like they are not giving you enough support.  Use the strap adjustment if there is one; if not, they can be altered very easily.

Swimsuits come in many sizes and styles, but the most important thing to keep in mind is that you need to wear something in which you are comfortable.  So sit down, stand up, bend over, or jump around, in the privacy of your home, of course!  Make sure that the suit works for you and your lifestyle, whether it is laying out and getting a tan, chasing your kids around the pool, playing volleyball on the beach, or snorkeling around the wrecks.  Remember:  the best suit is the one that works for you!
